Spring/Summer 2016 collection titled 'INTO' - Concept Explained.

The concept for S/S'16:

This collection is based on the work of Japanese architect Tadao Ando. His distinguished aesthetic extends from the Japanese tradition of spareness and the religious term Zen, which focuses on the concept of simplicity by designing and providing buildings that represent a sense of weightlessness and often plays on contrasts of light and darkness. His honest use of space, which is often enriched with strikingly effective yet modest details, heavily influences this collection, along with the geometry of his work and use of colour palate.

This collection explores the light connection and rhythm between minimal elegance, and intricate, considered details. This was the key motivation behind creating a simple design that’s compelling, accessible and desirable. The silhouette was developed as a representation of effortlessness, offering a feminine, loose and clean cut with small hints of tailoring.

The emphasis on craftsmanship is clearly apparent in the hand embellishment of the Swarovski stones alongside the use of natural materials, silks and pleated silks. These are paired with mesh fabrics and wool crepe’s which show the diversity and originality of the collection and are essential wardrobe pieces with the potential for day or evening wear.

The S/S’16 collection, titled ‘Into’, analysises the two contrasting elements found in Tadao Ando’s architecture, simplicity and beauty; Naoshima Contemporary Art Museum (Kagawa) and dramatic artistry; The Church of Light (Honshu). Marking the beginning of a conceptual journey, the collection rationalises his theory, that one does not exist, without the other.

In the collection, the two different entities are two halves of one whole circle. Once connected, they lived on either side, but now have fallen ‘Into’ each other. Contemporary and couture, embellished yet simple, there can be no day without the night; this collection is an story of understated balance.
